When it comes to baseball—and in the business world—it’s all about who’s on your team. Unfortunately, the New York Yankees missed out on getting outfielder Jason Heyward and Andrelton Simmons, who were both almost traded to the Yankees from the Atlanta Braves. If that trade had been made, it would have been one of the most lucrative in baseball, but the Yankees would have lost key prospects from their farm system:

  • Luis Severino
  • Aaron Judge
  • Gary Sanchez

Ultimately, Heyward was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals instead because the cost was just too high for the Yankees.

Top Recruits from the Farm System

Even though that deal didn’t come to fruition, fans can still expect a promising season for the Yankees. Look for even more from last year’s recruits Didi Gregroius at shortstop and Nathan Eovaldi on the mound. Eovaldi finished last season strong with a 3.43 ERA in his last 14 starts. He hasn’t reached his full potential yet, but expect great things for him in the future.

This year the team will add:

  • Aaron Hicks
  • Starlin Castro
  • Aroldis Chapman

The best part of this year’s recruitment is that New York didn’t have to trade any top players to acquire new recruits.

The Takeaway for All of Us

As always, the team takes setbacks in stride and will make up for the missed opportunities of Heyward and Simmons. The lesson here for all of us is to continually create opportunities for ourselves even if one option doesn’t work out. Perseverance is the key to a successful career, whether it’s in sports, business, or any other area of your life. That’s what has always guided me throughout my career, and it hasn’t failed yet.
