I stumbled upon a recent article that revealed the New York City area colleges that have alums who make the most money after graduation. Perhaps it’ll come as no surprise that the graduates with the higher income came from colleges with medical concentrations. Appearing on the list within the top five are SUNY Downstate Medical Center (top post-graduation salary: $128,00), Helene Fuld College of Nursing (top post-graduation salary: $84,200),  and St. Paul’s School of Nursing-Staten Island (top post-graduation salary: $74,800).

The rankings were released by the U.S. Department of Education as part of a larger study to it pays to determine “what salaries people are making after they attend college.” While the NYC-based rankings surely showed that it pays to go into the medical field, for many employees there are other things to weigh besides salary when you’re making a decision about a certain position and/or a workplace environment. To determine those environments, one might refer to Crain’s recently unveiled “100 Best Places to Work in New York City in 2016.

Crain’s will reveal the actual numerical rankings on December 2nd, but in the meantime, the alphabetical list includes a host of companies that range from a window/door supplier (Adler Windows) to a legal firm (WilmerHale). The most represented industry appears to be technology and advertising/public relations/marketing. Some of the bigger names on the list: Squarespace, Salesforce, Contently.

According to the editors of Crain’s, “this year’s winners, named alphabetically below, hail from New York’s diverse sectors, including advertising, accounting, engineering, law, real estate and technology.”

The list intends to highlight 100 companies that are “taking decisive steps to create a workplace where employees are collegial, inspired by their work, empowered to take the initiative and get credit where credit is due.”

Last year, Button, an app that connects to leading commerce brands and earns users money, was the company that won the top honor of best place to work in New York City.
